Education Endowment Fund Plymouth City Council Sponsored Leadership ProgrammeLeadership Programme for Plymouth Secondary Schools:

Training and Retaining Great Teachers

This is part of the EEF Leadership programme and will explore the best available evidence on continuous professional development and draw on a range of EEF guidance reports and insights from programme evaluations.  Senior Leaders attending this programme will develop a robust plan to support every teacher in their school/Trust and develop the skills and knowledge to build on schools’ already existing CPD programmes.  It is aimed at senior leaders with responsibility for leading CPD and teacher development and aspirant senior leaders with an interest in this area.  It may well be the case that some of the literacy leads involved in the literacy programme may wish to continue onto this programme to further develop their expertise.

What is the Training & Retaining Great Teachers programme?

Teacher development proves one of the most effective ways to drive school improvement. But why is it so hard to change our habits in the classroom? And what models for CPD are most likely to support teacher development?

The 'Training and Retaining Great Teachers’ programme explores the best available evidence on continuous professional development, and draws on a range of EEF guidance reports and insights from programme evaluations.

From exploring the evidence around pupil learning and effective teacher development,

Is this programme part of the EEF Leadership offer?

Yes. The first half of the offer focused on secondary literacy. This programme focuses on teacher development and CPD. However, it may well be the case that some of the literacy leads involved in the first programme who are also aspiring senior leaders may wish to continue onto this programme to further develop their expertise.

What does it cost?

The programme is FREE to schools – it is fully funded by the Education Endowment Foundation and Plymouth City Council.

Who should attend?

Current senior leaders with responsibility for leading CPD and teacher development, and aspirant senior leaders with an interest in this area.

How many people can we send on the programme?

To maximise the opportunity for professional learning and collaboration, we recommend sending two people per school. If you wish to send more, we would be happy to discuss this.
